ConsumerLab.com tested supplements used to enhance male and female sexual performance made with L-arginine, yohimbe, and epimedium (horny goat weed). But only six of eleven different supplements were found to contain key listed ingredients and meet other quality criteria. Lead contamination and/or low levels of expected plant compounds caused five products to fail testing.
This report also reviews the clinical evidence for 35 different ingredients commonly used in sexual enhancement supplements. Evidence of potential benefit was found to exist for only 14 (of which some are reviewed in separate reports for ginseng , acetyl-L-carnitine , DHEA , and vitamin C ).
